The NBA offseason is starting to move to the final stages and teams are now looking to fill out their rosters before training camp and the Detroit Pistons may be the latest to do it, as reports have come out that the team is signing Josh Harrellson to a deal.
According to SB Nation, the Pistons are looking to add Harrellson amid news that he has workouts with the Sacramento Kings and Los Angeles Lakers. The big man from Kentucky would be a nice end of the bench addition for any of the three teams and would join former Wildcat DeMarcus Cousins on the Kings if he signed there. Harrellson was drafted in 2011 in the second round and played for the Knicks for a bit, appearing in 37 games
Harrellson was excellent in college, averaging 7.6 points, 8.7 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game as a senior and now he could get the chance to contribute for the Pistons. He previously played in China in the CNBL and was played of the year while averaging 22.3 points, 18.2 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.5 blocks and 1.2 steals and his next team will be his fourth. Harrellson played for the Kicks and was traded to the Rockets and then after getting released he signed with the Heat, but he eventually was waived from there too.
The Lakers could be interested in Harrellson and reports have the team also looking at Lou Amundson as an option off the bench. Last season the team had interest in him while dealing with injuries and now the signing could become a reality. He previously played for the Pelicans and Bulls as well as the Suns, but he was not with coach Mike D'Antoni in Phoenix. With career averages of 3.7 points and 3.6 rebounds, he could be a solid option for the Lakers as they try to turn things around from last year.
The Knicks are trying to get their roster finished and some options include the frontcourt, as players Hamed Haddadi and Earl Barron have been looked at for depth. Both players fit in with the roster and could be solid backups for Tyson Chandler depending on who the team signs. Haddadi met with the team and Barron reportedly has interest as well after averaging 3.2 points and five rebounds per game.
