Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson had one of the most amazing years in NFL history last season after rushing for over 2,000 yards and making his story even more remarkable was the fact that he was coming back from a serious knee injury that he suffered the previous year.
As a follow up to his record season, Peterson has his eyes set even higher and he spoke about it with NFL writer Peter King on The MMQB in the "10 Things I Think I Think" Column on Wednesday. Peterson spoke about his expectations for the upcoming season and said that 2,500 yards is a goal that he has for himself this year and that he has to set high goals and will try his best this season to reach them.
Peterson spoke about some of the rumors that other players, including an unnamed Detroit Lions linebacker, thought about him last season and if he was using steroids or "juice", describing a moment when that linebacker said to him "what are you taking, what juice are you using?" Peter King bolded the line Peterson had back, saying "I'm juicing on the blood of Jesus."
Peterson said that he wanted to recover and play his best football and mentioned that the fact that he did that kind of got lost in the shuffle with him chasing the record. Peterson said that he wants to break Eric Dickerson's record and that he thinks he will do it someday. Peterson said in number five that he felt that the voters last season would do the right thing and realize that he deserved the MVP despite the fact that Peyton Manning is a "great player." Peterson felt that his accomplishments should not be outweighed by the fact that he was a quarterback and since they were both coming back from injury he had to be the one to get it.
Peterson said that while he has not been asked by Robert Griffin III about it, he gave his advice and said "Be smart. Go out, play, don't think about it, be strong." Peterson doesn't just want the single season record either, he said he wants Emmitt Smith's all-time record, which according to King he is 9,507 yards behind. Peterson is 28-years-old now and has nearly 8,850 yards.
