The NFL offseason and preseason are starting to move fully into the regular season with just one game left on the preseason schedule for teams and with rosters moving down from 90 players to 75, the Tuesday 4 PM deadline is interesting, as names like Tim Tebow and Tyler Wilson could be on the chopping block.
The next deadline is on Saturday at 6 PM for teams to get their rosters down to 53 for the start of the season and before then teams will start releasing players and putting some on the waiver wire. Other teams will be looking to fill needs as they fix up their rosters and with injuries still coming into play this late in the game, released players know they will have chances to find jobs.
The Jets made some notable releases with Braylon Edwards and Joe McKnight, while the Giants released Aaron Curry and the Redskins released Donte Stallworth from their roster. The Bengals got down to the limit by letting go of players and making six moves overall, including moving two players to the reserve list and releasing a few players. The Jets were active in signing another player that was cut in Dan Carpenter and they decided to release Billy Cundiff.
The Detroit Lions decided to stick with David Akers as their kicker, letting go of Havard Rugland, the YouTube star who made the "Kickalicious" video that was viewed millions of times on YouTube. The Lions loved what he could do, but had to stick with the veteran instead. The Colts made three moves to get to the limit and moved some players around on the injury list and also waived a player. Tim Tebow is the most interesting name on the chopping block and there is a good chance he will survive at least until the next deadline, but he may not make it on the 53-man roster.
