The Oakland Raiders made some final roster decisions on Saturday, electing to keep two punters and four quarterbacks in Matt Flynn, Tyler Wilson, Terrelle Pryor and Matt McGloin, but on Sunday the team made moves after not being able to trade players, cutting Chris Kluwe and waiving Tyler Wilson.
According to Pro Football Talk, Wilson was waived after being a fourth round pick and Kluwe was waived after being signed in the offseason after his release from the Vikings to compete with young player Marquette King. The Raiders made the moves on Sunday after the final roster cut downs and that could mean they are getting ready to make some other moves. McGloin showed that he was very good in the preseason and the team liked what they saw, obviously enough to let Wilson go after he was considered to be a top draft pick.
Kluwe tweeted out his support for the Raiders organization and King and said that he has a bright future and while the Raiders have yet to name a starter, it likely Will be Flynn after they traded for him in the offseason. Kluwe has been an outspoken player in the NFL and he appeared to fit in well with the Raiders, while Wilson was a fourth round pick behind players like Ryan Nassib and Matt Barkley and now he will be looking for another home. The Raiders wanted to keep Wilson since he was a fourth round pick, but they really liked McGloin after signing him as an undrafted free agent and it is likely that someone will claim Wilson now.
The Raiders clearly wasted a draft pick if he goes to another team, but since they made some moves and made a number of picks this season, they may be able to survive the cut, but with Latavius Murray already on IR and DJ Hayden getting surgery, the 2013 class is looking a bit beat up. The Raiders went 4-12 last season and now the Raiders will get the chance to see what Flynn, Pryor and McGloin can do in the final week as they lead up to the start of the regular season.
