Well props to Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez for waking up, we barely could! It's the fight of the decade and you can watch it online via live stream. Two of the games' best athletes meet at the MGM Gram after so much anticipation and pomp.
This is the fight of the decade because both fighters come into this meeting undefeated. We have seen and heard more about and from Mayweather Jr. than Canelo. Mayweather Jr. is the Jay-Z of boxing. He's not a businessman, he's a business man!
Canelo could become the new face of boxing, but of course, this is easier said than done. Canelo comes into this fight with a 41-0-1 record. The one draw took place back in 2006, three years after Canelo turned pro. He went four rounds against Miguel Vazquez, who was making his debut in this fight. Most of Canelo's opponents have been guys like Vazquez; a bunch of no names to the big stage of boxing.
Canelo didn't fight in the U.S. until 2010 when fighting Jose Cotto at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. He won via technical knockout, winning in nine rounds. Since then, Canelo has seen the likes of Carlos Manuel Baldomir, Matthew Hatton, Josesito Lopez and Austin Trout. The biggest fighter Canelo has fought, an aged Shane Mosley.
There's not much to say about Mayweather that we don't already know. He has a big mouth, but he backs it up with his boxing skills. He is a modern day Muhammad Ali and hopefuly nobody gets offended by this comparison. As far as boxing is concerned, Mayweather looks to be a carbon copy of The Greatest, just in a smaller body.
Mayweather is usually described as a boxer who runs, but don't be fooled. If you go punch-to-punch with Mayweather, he will hurt you. Boxers usually start fights confidently, but Mayweather's ability to adjust on the fly allows the 36-year-old to adapt and find holes in opponents' boxing styles.
