The Aaron Hernandez murder case took an interesting turn last week, as his girlfriend Shayanna Jenkins and his cousin Tanya Singleton were both indicted on separate charges, extending the case to another group of people that could have a significant impact on his trial coming up possibly next year.
According to ESPN.com, Jenkins was charged with one count of perjury in the case, with a grand jury handing down the charge for the 24-year-old girlfriend and fiancé of Hernandez. The report says that now arraignment date has been scheduled and that the perjury charge is related to her testimony in the case, although details have not yet come out about exactly why she was indicted. Jenkins has been public multiple times in court supporting Hernandez and some have speculated what could happen if she is arrested, which would leave their baby Avielle Janelle likely with family.
Jenkins was previously looked at in the case by police after she was seen taking a bag out of the Hernandez home that may have included the murder weapon. The investigation looked into her and a storage unit in her name, but their search did not turn up the gun, which is still missing. Hernandez has been in jail since being arrested the week after the body of Lloyd was found less than a mile from the home that he shared with Jenkins and now it appears that the case is widening and also possibly falling apart.
Hernandez's cousin was indicted on conspiracy to commit accessory after the fact and Ernest Wallace, an accomplice in the case, was also indicted on accessory to murder after the fact, so was Carlos Ortiz. Many suspect Ortiz will be used as a witness against Hernandez, but after changing his story to saying that Wallace and Hernandez stepped out of the car with Lloyd the night of the murder to just Hernandez could affect how the jury sees him as a witness and how the defense attacks him.
Jenkins has been in court multiple times for Hernandez and now she will have to face the court herself when things go down for her arraignment and depending on what happens, things could continue for her. Jenkins said that she went to bed early the night Hernandez allegedly committed the murders and she was a connection between Lloyd and her fiancé, as her sister was reportedly dating Lloyd when he was killed.
