The New York Yankees want to cool any speculation that they don't want manager Joe Girardi back, as the team and general manager Brian Cashman have already started negotiations to bring him back.
Rumors have circulated that a team like the Chicago Cubs might be appealing to Girardi since he is from Illinois, but so far all signs point to him coming back. According to ESPN.com, Cashman said that he wants to bring back Girardi and that the team will meet to start actual negotiations for the manger to return to the team.
Reports have had the Cubs looking at Girardi and others as possible candidates and according to ESPN.com, Cashman did not say whether or not he would allow the Cubs to speak with Girardi before his contract is up at the end of October after the MLB playoffs. The Yankees missed the postseason for the second time since 1995 and both have been under Girardi and now it remains to be seen what will happen for the manager.
The Yankees dealt with an injury plagued roster and finished eight games over .500 and out of the playoff race after pulling close in the Wild Card. The team had not finished with 85 wins or less since the early 90s and now the franchise must regroup to move forward and a big part will have to do with what happens to A-Rod in his appeal for his suspension.
