NY Giants Week 5 Schedule: What Eli Manning and Big Blue Needs To Do For Win Against Philadelphia Eagles

Oct 02, 2013 09:13 AM EDT

The New York Giants are 0-4 this season after three straight terrible losses and now that the Philadelphia Eagles are coming to town in Week 5, Eli Manning and the team must find a way to win, or their season will legitimately be over.

The Giants opened the year with a tough loss against the Dallas Cowboys that saw them turn the ball over six times and after that the team was demolished by the Denver Broncos, Carolina Panthers and Kansas City Chiefs, scoring just 30 points over three games while allowing over 30 in all three. The defense is in tatters, the offense looks lost and the line can't protect Eli, so what can the team do to change things?

Obviously the offense needs to play better, because if the team can't score they can't win, but even more than that they need to play with confidence. While the team doesn't have much right now, it needs to play with it anyway. Eli looks terrible and so does the running game, but Manning has won Super Bowls and knows how to bounce back from adversity and while the running game is a mess, David Wilson is very talented and he needs to try his best to break one off.

If the running game can just be marginally better, it will open up the passing attack and that is what the team needs. The rushing offense is ranked 30th in yards per game and the team is allowing over 120 yards on the ground per game, something that cannot continue. The Giants are playing the Eagles in Week 5, something that is always tough, but the team is just 1-3 and not looking much better than the Giants and with the Redskins 1-3 and the Cowboys 2-2, the Giants are not done yet.

The Giants season is broken up into four chunks of four games and this next stretch could dictate if the season has any meaning or not. The team plays the Eagles and then the Bears before hosting the Vikings on Monday night football and with the Eagles coming in Week 8 on the road before a bye, these games are all must-wins and the team must go 3-1 at least to survive.
