We are less than 96 hours away from watching Juan Manuel Marquez enter the ring. It's been almost a year since No. 1 Welterweight boxer entered the ring, but at the age of 40, he is determined to continue going as his next fight booked and his opponent is a tough one. Who will he fight? What date is he fighting? Check out all the info as el Mexicano No. 1 del mundo goes for the WBO Welterweight title.
Fight Date: Saturday, Oct. 12
Fight Time: after 11:30 p.m. ET
Opponent: Timothy Bradley
There are three undercards for the Bradley vs. Marquez bout on Saturday. First, Seanie Monaghan vs. Anthony Caputo-Smith as HBO will be airing the bouts. Following the opening fight, Vasyl Lomachenko sees Jose Luis Ramirez at 9:45 p.m. ET. Lastly, it's a fight of Orlando's as Orlando Cruz fights Orlando Salido before Bradley and Marquez hit the ring.
Marquez comes into the fight as the challenger as Bradley holds the WBO Welterweight Title. Bradley took possession of the belt after getting some help stripping it from Manny Pacquiao in their bout back in June of 2012. Pacquiao had won the title back in 2009 after defeating Miguel Cotto.
For Bradley, it's his second fight as Welterweight champion. He successfully defended the title against Ruslan Provodnikov earlier in the year, winning the bout by unanimous decision.
It will be the second time in his career that Marquez goes after the Welterweight crown. He lost in his first attempt against Pacquiao as judges controversially gave Pacman the Majority Decision. Everytime Pacquiao and Marquez met, there was always controversy surrounding the fight as the two would go toe-to-toe and give fans 12 vicious rounds on boxing.
However, when the two met back in December of last year, Marquez took home all the praise after squarely knocking out Pacquiao. The Filipino was out cold on the canvas and the social world went crazy as they created memes mocking the 10-time champion. Freddy Roach, Pacquiao's trainer later said Pacquiao was knocked out due to a false step as the southpaw and Marquez, who is right-handed, tangled at the feet right before the blow.
