Juan Manuel Marquez shocked the world with a six-round knockout of Manny Pacquiao to win the long awaited bout.
With the sixth round winding down and 10 seconds remaining, Pacquiao and Marquez entered their usual late exchanges that became a pattern through the first five rounds.
Pacquiao had Marquez's nose bleeding and more than likely broken. Pacquiao remained aggressive when out of nowhere Marquez landed a hard right hand that laid Pacquiao cold on the canvas.
His wife was worried and wanted to get in the ring, but the medics attended Pacquiao, who eventually came back to this world.
The punch landed a second before the bell rang to end the round and Pacquiao was immobile for almost a minute, maybe longer. The bell rung to end the round, but in fact it had ended the fight.
It was the same right hand that Marquez used to knockdown Pacquiao in the third round. With the knockdown, Marquez, at least in Lederman's scorecard, had tied Pacquiao after the Filipino controlled the first two rounds of the match.
Pacquiao, however, had regained control of the bout after his third round knockdown by returning the favor in the fifth round and knocked down Marquez. From then on it looked like it was all Pacquiao for the remainder of the fight.
The stats show Pacquiao controlling the fight, landing more punches, power punches, jabs you name it, however, all it took was an overhand right to knockdown Pacquiao.
In the post-match interviews, Pacquiao said he realized he was too confident afterwards, the loss did not occur because he was over aggressive. At certain points it looked like Pacquiao was more confident than careless as he would fly open and leave the body clear for punches.
Marquez methodically threw these punches and landed them solidly. Marquez said he was prepared for Pacquiao if in case he got too aggressive in the fight.
In his interview, Marquez said he was ready for this fight as he had trained extremely hard.
Of course, the question was asked, would there be a Pacquiao vs. Marquez V.
Marquez said he would discuss it with his family, while Pacquiao said he would be willing if discussed and worked out.
