The Boston Red Sox are inactive on Friday evening as they make their way to St. Louis to play the caridnals in Busch Stadium. When will they play game 3? Check out the Red Sox's schedule as they will try to regain the lead in the 2013 World Series.
Date: Saturday, Oct. 26
The Red Sox could not play solid baseball before getting the final nine outs of the ball game, They had the lead heading to the top of the seventh, but John Lackey lost David Freese after walking him and Jon Jay reached on a single. From then on, it took a scrappy at-bat from Daniel Descalso and two Red Sox errors to give the Cardinals the 4-2 lead. All three of those runners scored and two had reached because of walks. Committing errors and handing out free passes are the death of many teams in the postseason and if the Red Sox cannot let hitters earn their way on, then they will have a trouble time collecting their franchise's eighth championship.
Time: 8 p.m. ET
It will be Jake Peavy versus Joe Kelly in Game 3 of the World Series. Both pitchers have the knack of surrendering runs. They combined to allow 11 earned runs in their last playoff starts, proving neither is consistent, lacking dominance when their team needs them the most.
The Red Sox could see this series get out of hand. Lance Lynn is scheduled to get the ball in Game 5, unless Mike Matheny wants to go for the kill and bring Adam Wainwright back three-days rest, with Michael Wacha taking the ball in a possible series clinching Game 5. However, Kelly must get the victory on Saturday in order to give his manager that option. If the Red Sox win one game in St. Louis, it guarantees they could play Games 6 & 7 at home.
The Cardinals do not want to return to Boston. The Red Sox almost arrived in Busch Stadium with a 2-0 series lead. They will rely on a pitcher in Peavy who has had bad numbers in the playoffs throughout his career. Kelly has been descent, but he has not proven that he can go deep into games. Game 3 will be a battle of the bullpens and the Cardinals won the latest matchup in Game 2.
