The Los Angeles Lakers' best days are in their past. This is quite obvious. However, they have been able to make the postseason despite not being as talented or young as the rest of the conference. Charles Barkley predicts that this will end in 2013-2014 as he does not expect the Lakers to make the postseason this year.
The video is available at the end of the article.
The Lakers are not really sporting a dynamic lineup and they will immediately confront this reality against the Los Angeles Clippers tonight in their season opener. It is not that the Lakers' cannot complete those astonishing passes or fantastic jams. Lob City is simply part of the Clippers game, but it is not their formula for success. They are fast, talented, young and the Clippers' players have phenomenal chemistry.
Sticking to the Lakers, the additions made include Nick Young, who is fairly young in comparison to his teammates. Chris Kaman was a huge addition as he will help Pau Gasol in the paint. Suddenly, though Andrew Bynum has been a bit of a joke and appears to be demented, losing Bynum becomes a big deal. The Lakers have no speed, they have no speed and they best they can do is hope Steve Blake, Jordan Farmar and Young can knock down shots from the perimeter.
Check out these no-name stars: Xavier Henry- He came over from the New Orleans Hornets, played 60 games, averaged four points per game. Wesley Johnson- averaged eight points with the Phoenix Suns in 2013. Shawne Williams- did not even play in the NBA last season.
The Lakers are depending on depleted stars and at best, an average roster of guys nobody has heard of. It is safe to say two of sports' most successful franchises, the New York Yankees and Lakers, need to do a better job drafting stars and passing the baton. Maybe the Lakers should bomb the season on purpose and get a first-round draft pick. They do not owe anybody any picks this upcoming draft, which will ensure they get to keep a potential star.
