NASCAR Race Results: Jimmie Johnson Wins Chase Sprint Cup Championship At ESPN Race From Homestead-Miami Speedway

Nov 17, 2013 03:08 PM EST

Jimmie Johnson won his sixth NASCAR Sprint Cup championship on Sunday at the Ford EcoBoost 400 and now he has a historic trail of trophies and he will celebrate on Sunday night after winning once again.

The NASCAR season is now right at the end and with the Chase for the Sprint Cup playoffs finishing up on Sunday, Jimmie Johnson is looking for a historical sixth championship, while Matt Kenseth needs a miracle to help him win and it will go down on ESPN starting up at around 3:15 pm with the green flag and at 3 pm on ESPN from Homestead-Miami Speedway for the Ford EcoBoost 400 and will be streaming online from the Watch ESPN website.

Johnson comes into the race after another great performance last week in Phoenix and now all he needs to do on Sunday to win is finish the race in 23rd place or better and Kenseth needs quite a few things to happen to sneak in for the victory. Kenseth did his part by winning the pole for the race and that will be a way to put himself in position to make a move on Sunday, but it will nearly be impossible to win, as Johnson comes in with the top spot in the standings and he is leading by 28 points over Kenseth and the next closest driver is Kevin Harvick who is 34 back and Kyle Busch is 57 back and on Sunday the race will be all about where Johnson finishes. Johnson continue to hold the top spot in the standings after winning last week in Phoenix and the performance by Kenseth on Sunday set his team back and now Sunday marks the final Chase race of the season and likely will end with Johnson becoming champion again.

The NASCAR Chase started off with some controversy after what happened in Richmond and after Clint Bowyer was knocked out and Jeff Gordon was put in, the championship looks like it will end without any drama at the end, as Johnson is in clear position to win and it would take quite a bit on Sunday for Kenseth to overtake him after Phoenix last week and now Miami will be the setting for the race that decides the championship and Kenseth won the pole for the third time this season and while him and his driving team has a long shot to win, they at least have put themselves in a top position to try and get back into things. Johnson won't be far behind while starting in seventh and this race comes after Kenseth finished in 23rd place last week and Johnson won, making it terrible timing for a finish like that.

Harvick and Kenseth technically can win the championship, but a ton of things need to go right and that includes Johnson falling way behind and the way he has been drivgin in the Chase so far, that doesn't seem like something that will be happening. Dale Earnhardt Jr. is behind Kyle Busch in the standings and in the starting position next to Kenseth will be Kurt Busch and Joey Logano finished in third and Johnson will be a bit farther behind. Kenseth won the pole for the 11th time in his career and now Johnson has the chance to make some history in Miami and it comes after Austin Dillon won the Nationwide Series title and it was close by three points and at the final race, last year's Sprint Cup champion Brad Keselowski ended his year on a positive note, winning the race at Miami and he went up over seven spots over the last few laps to take the flag.

The NASCAR race on Sunday will be from Homestead-Miami Speedway and last year Jeff Gordon won the race and this will be for the Ford EcoBoost 400 and ends the Chase For the Sprint Cup championship and Jimmie Johnson starts the day in first place and in position to win again.
