The New York Rangers are having an up and down start to the season and while they have turned things around from the early goings, that hasn't stopped trade talk from coming up and rumors involving Michael Del Zotto are getting traction and it looks like the Ottawa Senators are a team that is interested.
According to Pro Hockey Talk, there are at least six teams that are interested in Del Zotto and one is the Senators and one reason is because he is a defenseman that cam move the puck. The Senators have been lacking scoring and production from that position and they feel that adding someone with his skill set this season could help the team get over the top.
Del Zotto has a scoring touch from the blue line and he has put up seasons of over 35 points, including ones with 37 and 41 and even though this season he has only one goal and three assists for four points, he could be a nice addition. On top of that, for the third straight games Alain Vigneault has held him out and that could mean a trade is coming very soon.
The Rangers have issues scoring this season and that has been a problem for the team for many years and now they are ranked 27th in the league in scoring and 12th in goals against. The team started out on a big slump and now they are hovering near .500 with 20 points to stand third in the division and a trade could possibly shake the team back into playing better. Del Zotto is young and the Rangers have done a better job at developing and keeping their young talent the past few years, but it remains to be seen what will happen with the star defenseman.
This season he has played in 16 games and has just one goal and during his last full season in the league he had 10 goals and 31 assists and averaged way more minutes and now it appears he is getting phased out for the Rangers. The age of Del Zotto means he has plenty of potential and that is why possible teams interested could be the San Jose Sharks, Vancouver Canucks or the Detroit Red Wings.
