The New York Knicks are in a pretty big funk and with the team struggling, news has continued to come out that head coach Mike Woodson is on the hot season and could possibly be fired and while that hasn't happened yet, reports say that if it ever does, expect James Dolan to try and woo John Calipari from Kentucky as the next head coach for the team.
The Knicks are just 3-8 as they start a road trip and according to Pro Basketball Talk, if Mike Woodson gets the boot, one name that could come up is Calipari from Kentucky, even though that seems like an impossibility. CBS Sports writer Ken Berger writes that it could happen because of connections to the Knicks and Knicks players through CAA and "World Wide Wes", who represents Carmelo Anthony and JR Smith and Calipari and while that's not much, his article does a solid job putting the pieces together. One thing PBT points out though is that Woodson is also repped by CAA, so yeah.
The Knicks have already changed Gms in the past year and the team is worried about the possibility of losing Carmelo Anthony in free agency, although the star said he wants to stay in New York. Berger writes that if Woodson gets fired, someone like Herb Williams would get the interim tag and then after the season the push for Calipari could come. The Knicks are in a tough situation so the sell would be on the future, as they are basically locked into contracts through 2014 and they are also devoid of some draft picks due to the Anthony deal and now they could end up having a disappointing season on top of all that.
The move is highly unlikely since Calipari had a terrible run the last time he was in the NBA and while the Knicks are planning on going after Kevin Love when they can, that may not happen and that could throw things into chaos if the Knicks strike out again like they did with LeBron James.
