The Washington Redskins and the Houston Texans have been the most disappointing teams in the NFL this season after making the playoffs in 2012 and with the Texans firing their coach and the Skins looking like they will ditch Mike Shanahan, could Jon Gruden or Bill Cowher be options for the teams to sign?
According to ESPN.com, Gruden is not interested in leaving his broadcast job for the Texans, but if the Redskins job becomes open with RG3 at quarterback, he could change his mind. Gary Kubiak has already been canned by the Texans after their horrible losing streak and according to Pro Football Talk, they would not be interested in Shanahan if he is fired, but Gruden could be more of a possibility. Gruden would likely want to go to a team with a chance to win and the Texans fit that mold despite their season, as they were one of the top seeds in the AFC a year ago and they have talent in JJ Watt, Andre Johnson and Arian Foster.
The Redskins are an absolute mess this season and the team now has only won three games and after making the playoffs and winning the division last season, this year feels like a nightmare. Numerous reports have been coming out over the past few weeks about the relationships of Shanahan, Robert Griffin and owner Daniel Snyder and one report said that Shanahan was possibly going to quit the Redskins last season because of treatment given to RG3 by the owner over other players. Shanahan did not deny the reports and many feel that the team could fire him after a blowout loss this past weekend at home against the Kansas City Chiwefs.
The PFT report says that the Texans could be looking at Lovie Smith as well as Chargers coordinator Ken Whisenhunt and Stanford's David Shaw as options, while Gruden would also be in the mix. The Redskins have been a mess this season and with Bruce Allen and Snyder not commenting at all about the situation, there's a chance Shanahan could be fired before the end of the season. If Griffin and Shanahan are at odds, the team likely will stick with the player it gave up three first round picks for.
The Skins are just 3-10 on the season and are battling the Texans for the number one draft pick and they got killed on Sunday, scoring jus6t 10 points in the second quarter and that was it as the Chiefs embarrassed them 45-10. Kirk Cousins got into the game for RG3 and it was another tough loss for the team, as they now have lost five straight and six of seven.
