Dec 16, 2013 08:14 PM EST

The Detroit Lions and the Baltimore Ravens are both within striking distance of making the playoffs this season and on Monday Night Football for Week 15 the two teams will meet at ford Field for a matchup that will be live on ESPN at 8:30 pm and will stream online from the WatchESPN website.

The Ravens come into the game after an amazing win over the Vikings that saw five touchdowns over the final minutes, while the Lions know they need to win after losing in the snow last week and seeing the Chicago Bears win on Sunday in Cleveland to take a lead in the NFC north and now they need to match that. The Lions have the break over the Bears and winning out could get them in, while the Ravens will try to take advantage of the loss by the Bengals to the Steelers on Sunday night football in the AFC north battle. The team currently is in wild card position and winning on Monday night would knock off a number of teams looking to stay in the postseason race.

Check here for the Ravens and Lions coverage.

The Ravens have had some very disappointing losses earlier in the season and after losing games some lesser opponents in the Cleveland Browns and the Buffalo Bills, the team has come on by winning four of the past five games and the one loss was in overtime and now they face the Lions with a chance to take control in their own playoff destiny. The team likely will make it as a wild card and the Bengals have to be worried, as they play the Ravens in Week 17 and that comes after Baltimore plays against the New England Patriots and that is a huge matchup between Joe Flacco and Tom Brady that could have far ranging playoff implications for both teams and that game will be in Balt.

The Ravens started the season 3-4 on the year and they really have turned things around and now they are a team that no one wants to face and the defense has been playing better as well, holding their last five opponents to under 30 points and they actually have not allowed that many all season and now they have their toughest tests ahead. The team comes in allowing over 230 yards in the air per game and that will be tough against Calvin Johnson and Matthew Stafford, as the Lions love to air it out and with Reggie Bush and Joique Bell expected to play, the team has plenty of weapons to watch out for.

The Ravens are no offensive slouches though as evidenced by the game last week and Flacco comes into the game with 18 touchdowns and over 3,000 yards and Ray Rice will be the main focus for the running game. Rice has not had a great season, but that doesn't mean he can't bust out with a big game and Torrey Smith will be an option as well. The team is two games back of the Bengals in the division, but with a win they will get closer in the AFC North and they have a clear shot at the division as long as they win on Monday night.
