Capital One Cup Draw: Schedule Results and Match Fixtures For Semi-Finals Start January 2014

Dec 19, 2013 09:49 AM EST

The Capital One Cup draw for the semi-finals is all set after the quarter matches this week and now Manchester United is through and will play against Sunderland, while the hot Premier League team in Manchester City will play against West Ham United in matches that will start up with the fixture schedule in January.

The matches this week were exciting and hard fought and on Tuesday Sunderland was able to upset Chelsea in the quarters to advance, while West Ham United was able to get an upset victory against Tottenham at White Hart Lane and having their manager get fired this week was no help to the Spurs. Tottenham has had a rough go of it this week after falling to Liverpool in dominating fashion with a shutout at White Hart Lane over the weekend and now they are out of the Capital One Cup and need to get back on track as the EPL holiday schedule comes along.

The first matches will be played in January and those matches will come on the sixth and then the second leg will be played on the 20th of the month. The matches during the beginning of January come after the English Premier League holiday schedule and have Sunderland playing against Manchester United at the Stadium of Light before the return trip on the 20th at Old Trafford and Manchester City will be playing against West Ham at Etihad Stadium before the latter matchup at Boylen Ground.

David Moyes said that United would not underestimate their opponents after they defeated Chelsea and club would like to get back on track heading into the English Premier League holiday schedule and that could get things right as they prepare for the semifinals. The team is currently eighth on the EPL table and the club got goals from Ashley Young and Patrice Evra to get through to the next round.

Here is a recap of the games on Wednesday and more about the draw for the Capital One Cup from Reuters.com:

West Ham United piled more misery on managerless Tottenham Hotspur by coming from behind to book their place in the League Cup semi-finals with a 2-1 win at White Hart Lane on Wednesday.

Ashley Young scored his first goal in 18 months as champions Manchester United reached the last four with a 2-0 win at Stoke City in a match held up for 10 minutes by a hail storm in the first half.

Tottenham, who sacked boss Andre Villas-Boas on Monday following their crushing 5-0 home defeat by Liverpool, looked on course for victory when forgotten man Emmanuel Adebayor volleyed them ahead.

But the north Londoners' defensive frailties were exposed again as Matt Jarvis equalized with 10 minutes left and Modibo Maiga headed the winner shortly afterwards.

England international Young was handed a rare start, with question marks hanging over his future at Old Trafford, but he reminded fans of his talent with a pile-driver of a shot from 20 metres to put the visitors ahead in the second half.

Left back Patrice Evra curled home a cool finish, clipping the ball into the far corner, to wrap up victory for David Moyes's team with 12 minutes remaining. Sunderland and Manchester City booked their places in the semi-finals on Tuesday. (Reuters)
