The Toronto Raptors are currently first in the Atlantic division this season and while that is a nice accomplishment to have heading into 2014 after 30 games, that doesn't change the fact that the franchise is in rebuilding mode and with that comes trade reports, including that general manager Masai Ujiri could be interested in Orlando Magic star Arron Afflalo, meaning players like Kyle Lowry, Terrence Ross or DeMar DeRozan could be on the move at the trading deadline.
The Raptors have already made one big trade this season with Rudy Gay being sent to the Sacramento Kings and now Toronto could be dealing again as the trading deadline gets closer in February. According to Grantland.com, the Raptors are in an interesting phase in their rebuilding process and writer Zach Lowe proposes that the team could be looking at Magic star Arron Afflalo, as he is a veteran player on a bad/rebuilding team and since he is one of the top 15 players in the league in scoring right now, he could be a primary target.
Afflalo's contract is not a bad one and the Raptors are looking to shed some money while also adding talent if they can and that is why Lowe proposes that Terrence Ross could be dangled in a deal to other teams. The report from SB Nation on the possible deal says that the Magic see Ross as a solid player that they "value" highly and that could spur both teams to make a move, as Orlando is in a heavy rebuild and could use to deal any veterans they have to keep continuing on that path.
Afflalo is currently averaging over 20 points per game and he has been the most consistent player for the Magic this season and on top of that Ujiri is familiar with him from his time with the Denver Nuggets and now the two could be reunited again. Afflalo previously was mentioned in trade talks back in December but the Magic rebuffed that and as the calendar changes to 2014, the team could take a different stance, especially if the team offers Ross.
The Magic reportedly are looking to trade both Jameer Nelson and Glen Davis and Afflalo now could be part of that group as well and the best bet to move is Ross, who is 23 years old and has some potential. This season he is averaging just under 10 points and nearly three rebounds per game and that could be an interesting move for the Magic to make.
