Tim Tebow Rumors: Cleveland Browns Option Over Brandon Weeden As Team Hires Mike Pettine At Head Coach?

Jan 23, 2014 12:22 PM EST

The Cleveland Browns head coaching search is finally getting down to the end after a long search and a number of candidates pulling out and now it looks as if Mike Pettine or Josh McDaniels will be the coach with Pettine the favorite and it's possible that Tim Tebow could get into the mix as an option for Brandon Weeden heading into 2014.

According to Pro Football Talk, Pettine and McDaniels are looked at as the finalists and the 47 year old former Jets and current Bills coordinator on defense in Pettine appears poised to get the job. ESPN.com is reporting that Pettine will be getting the job offer and comes after the Browns ditched Rob Chudzinski hours after the final game of the season and the franchise has been criticized for the way it handled that and it is likely that reason why the team has had a hard time finding a head coach.

The Browns are the last vacancy in the league and Pettine comes after he was with the Jets and during that time he had some connections with Tebow, but that doesn't mean he would bring him in. The rumors are of course pure speculation and comes after the Browns appeared to be a team that could have signed him last season, as they got some rough play from Brandon Weeden and GM Mike Lombardi has praised the quarterback in the past.

McDaniels was first thought to be a candidate and then took his name out of the running, but now reports say he could be back in the mix, but Pettine remains the favorite. The Browns had another losing season and fans are starting to get restless and this is not the way that the NFL or new owner Jimmy Haslam envisioned his first year with the franchise.
