The story of Michael Sam coming out is one of the most interesting and promising in the NFL this year heading into the NFL draft and despite some lug heads and other Neanderthals talking like having an openly gay player will somehow disrupt their NFL locker room, there are plenty of people that think it will have no effect and WHEN he gets drafted, some teams that could fit the situation include the Indianapolis Colts, Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers, New England Patriots and Denver Broncos.
Let's start here: The Miami Dolphins cannot handle this, because they have players who have no leadership in the locker room, as evidenced by how they handled the Jonathan Martin and Richie Incognito situation. Donte Stallworth made some excellent points on TV following the news, saying that any team that can't handle this "distraction" are already "losers", like the Miami Dolphins were when they faltered at the end of the season.
The Patriots on the other hand, they handled Aaron Hernandez's murder arrest and Tim Tebow with perfect care, as it never became a distraction because they have leaders and a great head coach in Bill Belichick. They won the division and made it to the AFC Championship game.
Teams like the Indianapolis Colts, Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers and New England Patriots would be fitting due to their leadership and values and coaches like Jim Harbaugh and Pete Carroll would be able to handle the situation well. Dave Zirin has written well about this and now the NFL has to put up or shut up when it comes to Sam.
