Manchester City Wins Capital One Cup Trophy Over Sunderland In Finals For Championship 2014

Mar 02, 2014 09:35 PM EST

The Capital One Cup finals had Manchester City finish on top of Sunderland to take the football championship for 2014 for the tournament at Wembley Stadium and it ended with a 3-1 victory for Manchester City.

Sunderland took the early lead with a goal in the first half just 10 minutes into the match, but they couldn't muster up anymore after that, as Manchester City came back with three straight goals in the second half, with Yaya Touré and Samir Nasri scoring one minute apart, while Jesús Navas added one in the 90' minute and that gave the team the win after a rough first half of the match.

Manchester City was looking to avoid another defeat in Wembley after falling last year in the FA Cup against Wigan and this helped keep that from happening again. Sergio Aguero returned for Manchester City and that was a boost for the offense and things picked up in the second half after he missed five games with a hamstring injury and that gave the team a much more aggressive scheme. Man City took the momentum in the match with the two fast goals and Toure handled things on his score and now the team is hoisting the first of what hopefully will be multiple trophies. The team is in the top part of the English Premier League and they are in the mix with Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool for the EPL title.

"I think yes,'' Toure said, according to ESPN.com, when asked if it was his finest effort. "It was important as well. We needed to win today. It was very important. The final is only one game and you need to enjoy it - but you need to win.''
