The Oakland Raiders are making moves with Justin Tuck and LaMarr Woodley and now they could look at Mark Sanchez, Brandon Weeden, Michael Vick or Josh Freeman as free agent options at QB, while they also could trade Terrelle Pryor or Matt McGloin to the Philadelphia Eagles, Cleveland Browns or Houston Texans ahead of the NFL draft.
The Raiders had a ton of cap space coming into the offseason and while they were at over $60 million, they let Jared Veldheer and Lamarr Houston go and only brought back Darren McFadden, making some fans pretty pissed. The team signed Tuck and Woodley to get them over that and they should help the defense and now things turn to the offensive side of the ball and now they could look at Sanchez if he gets released, while Weeden and Michael Vick are out there and could be solid short-term options if the team wants to draft someone like Johnny Manziel or Blake Bortles in the draft.
According to ESPN.com, Tuck signed on a two year deal and one of the bloggers for the team suggested that Vick could be a potential fit if they opt to trade Pryor. The Raiders have McGloin and Pryor after last season and neither player took hold of the starting position and Pryor has been mentioned as a potential trade for the Eagles and he could also fit with the Texans and Browns if they feel that he is worth dealing for. The Raiders may want to start over at quarterback and bringing in a veteran could be a good idea as they try to develop a young quarterback and since they have not done a good job in the past, this could be the way to go now.
The team finished 25th in the league in passing yards per game last season and adding someone like Hakeem Nicks or Julian Edelman could help that, but either way the players the Raiders sign will need a QB to throw them the ball. Vick has been mentioned numerous times and Weeden, despite his struggles in Cleveland, could use a change of scenery and Sanchez fits into that as well. The Jets are expected to release Sanchez this offseason and when that happens he could be a solid target for the Raiders. The team also lost Tracy Porter, Rashad Jennings and Lamarr Houston and those were all important players last season and now Reggie McKenzie needs to get things in order.
The Texans and Browns both need a quarterback and while Pryor didn't do much last season, he showed flashes of being a star and going back to Cleveland where he played in college could work. Chip Kelly liked Pryor when he was back in the college ranks and he could serve as a solid backup after Michael Vick left for Nick Foles. The Raiders would love to add another draft pick and that could be a good move for McKenzie to make. The team also has free agents in Jacoby Ford and Jeron Mastrud and they are likely to pick up someone new at WR as well.
