The NCAA Tournament is live online Friday as the Kansas Jayhawks take on Eastern Kentucky in a South regional matchup and it comes live on TBS at 4:10 pm ET and the matchup is streaming from the Scottrade Center in St. Louis and has KU looking to start their run to the Final Four and the game has a live radio stream as well from Westwood.
Kansas comes into the tournament as a number two seed and that comes after the team lost to Iowa State in the conference tournament and now the Jayhawk's are looking to make a nice run. The team has freshman phenom Andrew Wiggins along with Perry Ellis and they will be getting star Joel Embiid back if they can win a couple games and they are the heavy favorites against East Kentucky, but the way this tourney is shaping up, a win is no sure thing. The first two games on each of the past two days ended in upsets with Dayton defeating Ohio State and Mercer winning over Duke and on top of that North Dakotas State advanced into the second round and that has put all the top seeds no notice.
The two teams in this game were 24-9 on the season and the Jayhawks come in as one of the most consistent and productive offensive teams in the nation after they ranked in the top 40 in all the major categories and they will need that to continue to have a run in the South, where they could face off against Syracuse and Florida. The team comes in ranked 22nd in overall points per game on the year while averaging 80 per game and they were also sixth in field goal percentage while shooting over 49 percent as a team. The team was in the top 40 in both assists and rebounds per game and now they will try and put all that together against Kentucky.
Wiggins has been great as a freshman and he has averaged 17 points per game this season and shot close to 45 percent, while Ellis was at 14 points and over 50 percent and now those two will be relied upon to get things going in the tournament. Ellis was second in rebounding with over six per game behind Embiid and Wayne Selden was second on the team in assists per game. Kansas has been to 14 Final Fours in their history and they have appeared in the tournament an astounding 42 times and now Bill Self and company will try to make up for their loss in the Big 12 conference tournament.
Since winning four games in a row earlier in the season, the team has lost three of five and now they will try and avoid the same fate as some of the higher seeds with a loss in the tournament. The Colonials are not going to give up easily and the Jayhawks know they will be tough to defeat and they should provide Kansas with a tough test despite being a number two seed and they have a chance to play against Stanford or New Mexico and later against Dayton or Syracuse if they can win.
