Milwaukee Brewers and Boston Red Sox are playing in the second interleague series of the year and the matchup is streaming online live from the MLB network and the game comes from Fenway Park and has Jake Peavy taking on Marco Estrada for the first matchup on the mound as the Sawx try to repeat as World Series champs in 2014.
The Red Sox come in after taking two of three from the Baltimore Orioles and they have this as their home opener at Fenway Park and that means the team will get honored after winning the championship last year. David Ortiz spoke about how exciting Opening Day is and this year it has added significance with the World Series win and the anniversary of the Boston bombing and this matchup is a good one after the Brewers played well and lost two of three to open the season. The Red Sox now have won three titles in the new millennium and many see them as the favorites in the AL East once again.
Last season Peavy was key for the Red Sox and he comes in after going 4-1 with a 4.04 ERA in 10 starts during last season and now he has the chance to pitch the home opener. The Red Sox got the win against the Orioles on Thursday after losing the first game of the series on Opening Day and now they come in after scoring 11 runs in three games and they rank in the top 10 in batting average, slugging and on base percentage in the early goings of the season. The pitching has been up and down and they are seventh in the league with two quality starts and as the team gets rolling, Jon Lester and others should get that up even higher.
The Red Sox have some questions coming into the season, including replacing the production of Jacoby Ellsbury, but they felt comfortable letting him to go the Yankees. The team is in first place in the AL East after the Yankees lost two of three against the Astros and now they can put some distance between themselves and the Orioles with a nice series here. Ryan Braun will get booed no doubt, but he doesn't seem to mind and the Brewers are hoping he can have a bounce back year after he was suspended.
Boston had 33 hits in the series against the Orioles and they are hoping to keep up that strong play as they matchup with the Brew crew and Peavy will be pitching against them for the first time since back when he was with the Padres. The Brewers have started off the season slow after losing two of three to the Braves and they scored just four runs over the first three games and also hit under .200 and they rank 29th in runs scored and slugging percentage in the early goings of the season.
