The Tampa Bay Rays and Kansas City Royals are playing live from Kauffman Stadium on Monday night as they start up a series on the MLB schedule and the game has a live stream from the MLB.com main website and starts up at 8:10 pm ET with Matt Moore taking on Jason Vargas in the pitching matchup.
The Rays come into the game at 4-3 and they are first in the AL East after a nice start to the season and they are coming into the matchup after losing to the Texas Rangers and that was the first start of the season for Yu Darvish and he became the fastest player in history to 500 strikeouts. The Rays have been one of the top offensive teams to start the season and they rank eighth in runs and batting average early on and they also are first in on base percentage
Chris Archer will be on the mound next for the Rays and they are coming in with the seventh best ERA through the first week and they also rank in the top 10 in quality starts, WHIP and batting average allowed. The Royals come into the game at fifth in the AL Central with a 2-3 record and they lost to the White sox to finish that series and they are trying to rebound after finishing with a winning record for the first time in a decade in 2013 and they are hoping to be this season's version of the Pirates if they can make the playoffs.
The team lost to Chris Sale with James Shields on the mound and they come in after scoring 16 runs in those games and they are ranked 26th to start up the season. Alex Cobb pitched well for the Rays in their last game and now Tampa meets a number of top young players, including Billy Butler, Salvador Perez and Alex Gordon and all of those names played very well against the Rays last season, mashing the ball in six games and winning all but one of them against Tampa. Mike Moustakas and Alcides Escobar have been ice cold to start the season and Ned Yost is hoping that the Rays can be a remedy.
Vargas comes in after signing a deal in the offseason and he pitched well last week in a loss to the Tigers. The Royals and the Rays have playoff hopes heading into this season and Evan Longoria is looking to heat up for the Rays in the second week of the season.
