The New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays are playing on Thursday night as they open an AL East series and the division has NY in first place coming in and the MLB baseball matchup has a live stream from the MLB.com website and comes as CC Sabathia and David Price face off in a matchup of aces for the teams in the American League.
Sabathia comes into the game at 1-2 and Price is 2-0 on the season and both are looking to stay in top form for their teams, especially Price, as the Rays are dealing with a ton of injuries in the rotation. The Yankees have a growing injury list as well, but it's in their infield with names like Mark Teixeira and Brian Roberts on the mend, while the Rays have Alex Cobb, Jeremy Hellickson and Matt Moore all dealing with various issues and Moore will be done after getting Tommy John surgery.
The Yankees swept the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday after a rainout in two games and they continued getting stellar pitching from Masahiro Tanaka and Michael Pineda, who are now the anchors of the rotation and have turned that into strength after the Yanks dealt with some inconsistency last season. Tanaka was very good and Pineda was sharp and has looked great since coming back from shoulder surgery and the Yankees have also been happy with new addition Jacoby Ellsbury, as he has played very well to start the season for his first year in pinstripes.
The Yankees won by a combined score of 5-0 on Wednesday and now they are in first place for the time being in the division over the Toronto Blue Jays, who have been playing well to start the season. Price and Sabathia have went head to head many times and Price has gone 6-1 during those games and the Rays have won eight of the 10 times and now the Yankees are hoping that Sabathia can turn it around, especially after he allowed five home runs in three starts this season.
The game is at Tropicana Field and the Rays come into the matchup after getting blanked by Miguel Gonzalez and the Orioles and now they face Sabathia before Hiroki Kuroda on Friday and he will matchup with Erik Bedard. The team comes into the game ranked 26th in runs and 29th in batting average and they are hoping that the offense can wake up against the Yankees.
The pitching has been solid despite the injuries and their ERA is ranked 13th and they are seventh in quality starts and 11th in WHIP so far this year. The Yankees are 22nd in runs, but they are ranked second in batting average and seventh in both on base and slugging percentage and that means they have been hitting the ball well. The pitching has been fantastic, ranking 15th in ERA, but in sixth for quality starts and in the top five in WHIP and top 10 in batting average against.
