Former Houston Rockets guard and NBA All-Star Tracy McGrady made the opening day roster for the Sugar Land Skeeters, a professional baseball team in Houston and he will be on the team as a pitcher and will open the season on Thursday with the club against Lancaster and it comes after he previously made a start last week and allowed three hits and one run on 15 pitches.

McGrady made his plans known earlier in the year that he would be pursuing a professional baseball career on a lower-level team, as he said it was a dream he had since being a young kid and now that has been realized. According to ESPN.com, McGrady was informed of the decision by manager Gary Gaetti and he said that the former NBA star had performed well while pitching and working out with the team and that he earned his spot on the roster.

McGrady previously was a baseball player in high school and when he was a young child and after transferring as a senior he was drafted by the Toronto Raptors with the ninth overall pick. McGrady threw 15 pitches in his first start for the team in an exhibition game and nine of those were for strikes and he may work as a reliever with the team.

"Tracy is on the team," Gaetti told KRIV. "He's just done what needed to be done since the idea came about.
