The San Francisco Giants and Pittsburgh Pirates are playing on the MLB schedule from PNC Park and the game is live at 12:35 PM and has the first place Giants taking on the Buccos and the matchup has Tim Lincecum and Gerrit Cole on the mound and comes before SF plays against the LA Dodgers in their next series in an NL West matchup.
The Giants comes into the series playing very well and they are 21-12 and first in the NL West despite losing last night and that came on a last second review that called the runner safe for the Pirates at home plate. Replay was fast and worked to perfection there and now the two teams matchup for the series finale and the Giants have their old ace that's not one so much anymore on the mound and then they play against the Dodgers on the road and that will start on Thursday.
The Giants come into the game ranked 10th in the league in runs scored and 22nd in batting average and the team is also ninth in slugging percentage and they have rebounded from a rough year last year that saw them miss the playoffs. The team looks to be back in their championship form and while Matt Cain is on the DL, Tim Hudson has been fantastic this season since signing from the braves and after winning two out of three World Series in a stretch, the team looks to return to the postseason in a very tough division, as the Rockies are playing much better now as well.
Starling Marte scored the winning run at the end of the game for the Pirates and the Giants come in ranked fifth in the league in ERA and the same in WHIP and they also are ranked 11th in BAA and 15th in quality starts and now they have the chance to keep that going against the Pirates. The Pirates have slumped to start and they are 13-20 on the season and in fourth in a tough NL Central division after making the playoffs and they have the Brewers to catch up with as well. The team opens a series next with the St. Louis Cardinals and that will have Michael Wacha against Francisco Liriano on Friday.
The two teams are both looking to get on track here and the Pirates come in ranked 20th in runs and 24th in batting average and the team has to start playing better to get back into the mix.
