Cleveland Cavaliers Trade Rumors: Kyrie Irving Traded If Kevin Love Deal and LeBron James Free Agency Fails?

May 27, 2014 10:32 AM EDT

The Cleveland Cavaliers have a number of big questions heading into the future and Kyrie Irving may ask for a trade in the future if the team doesn't hit on this number 1 draft pick and as that goes on, the Cavs are also targeting a Kevin Love trade deal along with LeBron James in free agency and if all that fails, names like Irving, Tristan Thompson, Dion Waiters and Anderson Varejao likely will be traded.

The Cavaliers won the number one overall pick for the second time in a row and now they have the chance to add a very solid prospect to their team, as the draft class is considered very deep in 2014. Irving will be watching very closely, as he is set to be a free agent soon and with contract extension questions coming, he will have to make a decision on his future. The Cavaliers want to sign Irving long term, but there is a good chance he will want to test the market, especially after being on a four year contract worth just over $20 million, as he can make a max deal in his next contract.

Irving can be a restricted free agent soon and with the Cavaliers future a bit up in the air, he has a ton of attention on him and earlier this season that boiled over. Irving got agitated with all the questions about his future and what he will do, but that is the nature of the media now and for as long as he is in Cleveland he will have to deal with those questions. According to ESPN.com, the team thinks it can be a factor in the Kevin Love trade now that they have the number one pick and the team also will make an effort to sign James, even if that is very unlikely to happen.

Irving led the team last season in scoring and assists and he has been the best player for the club since LeBron James left and that is another reason why the fans have been so worried, because they wonder whether Irving will also leave like James. LeBron had a ton to deal with when he left, but clearly it was the right decision and now if the Cavs mess up this chance with the number one pick again, Irving could leave as well. The team can pick someone like Jabari Parker or Andrew Wiggins with the top pick, while Joel Embiid has been getting the early love from scouts.

Last season the team went just 33-49 and missed the playoffs again and they ranked just 22nd in the league in scoring behind Irving. The team went just 7-9 against their division and was ranked 20th in assists per game, 16th in points allowed and 11th in rebounds per game. The Cavaliers now have received the number one overall pick four times since 2003 and for the third time in four years since picking Irvin from Duke. The team feels it has the chance to turn around with the young talent they have, but they will have to show Irving they are for real.
