The United States and Germany played to a 1-0 result and the USA is into the next round for the knockout stage and Portugal and Ghana ended up 2-1 and that put the team through and now Tuesday will have the next game in Salvador against Belgium and that is at 4 pm ET on July 1 in the knockout round.
The United States came into the game against Germany knowing that they needed a point or a win to get into the next stage and they also knew a loss with the result of Portugal and Ghana also could do it. John Boye had an own goal for Ghana to start the match before Cristiano Ronaldo scored in the 80th minute and the United States has the chance to make some noise now. Jozy Altidore could return for the next game and now that they have gotten past Germany they are through and this came with a loss, but that doesn't matter now. The team is through and this was big, as no one gave them a chance to get out of the group of death and now they have the chance to really be a factor into the next stage even coming in second in the tourney. They will face off against Belgium to start and that is a big match for the team in the knockout stage.
The US played hard and they proved against Panama they always play hard, as that match had nothing to gain for the US and they won to help Mexico get in. Ronaldo was the villain for the Us after his cross ended the Portugal match in a tie and now he is the hero and the team had a solid enough game and they kept Ghana at bay. The US gave up one goal to Thomas Muller and Germany and they put themselves in position to get a result despite dealing with that score.
The US won over Ghana in dramatic fashion, scoring 30 seconds into the game and then in the 83rd minute and they got the win 2-1. Dempsey scored the fifth fastest goal in World Cup history and the fastest for the US and then the team allowed Ghana to tie it up and they got a late goal from John Brooks to win it. Graham Zusi had a great corner and they got the win after that goal and he later set up the lead grabbing goal against Portugal to Dempsey, who put it in off his chest.
The United States went down 1-0 after a mistake from Geoff Cameron and that allowed Nani to score and the team had not won a game and Portugal had not lost when giving up/getting the first goal and that held with the 2-2 score. The Us made a great comeback after a Jermaine Jones goal and then Dempsey before Ronaldo broke the hearts of everyone with the cross into the middle that got Portugal to 2-2.
