The Portland Timbers and Sporting Kansas City are playing on the MLS soccer schedule on Friday night and the game is live at 11 pm ET from Providence Park in Oregon and this will be the second time the teams have played in the past week after the US Open Cup and now they have another match and both teams are battling for position in the standings.
The Timbers come into the game after winning the match against Kansas City in the US Open Cup fifth round and they had three goals in that match on the road and they are looking to move up in the west into playoff position. The Timbers got a point against Dallas and the KC side snapped a losing streak against the Dynamo and now those two teams are matching up here and all-time the teams have split with two wins apiece.
The two teams matchup only one time this season on the MLS schedule and obviously they just played against each other in the Open and Portland wants to get things going into the second half of the schedule. The Seattle Sounders are leading the west and the Timbers have won the games between the teams over the past two seasons and in the Cup game Soony Saad scored for KC, while Gastón Fernández had two goals for Portland.
The Portland Timbers play against the Seattle Sounders next in the Open Cup quarterfinals and that will be at Starfire and that game should be great and Portland comes in after getting a 2-2 draw against Dallas. The team has 20 points in 16 games this season and they are just out of playoff position in the west. The Timbers have done a good job scoring in extra time this season and they have played to draw numerous times at home and fans are hoping for a win on Friday and getting points from this game will be big heading into the second stretch of the season.
Sporting Kansas City is third in the eastern conference behind the Revolution and DC United and in fourth is Toronto ahead of the Red Bulls. The Timbers come into things sixth behind the Vancouver Whitecaps and the Sounders are in first place ahead of Real Salt Lake, Colorado Rapids and FC Dallas.
