The Oscar Pistorius trial is live back in South Africa and the coverage is streaming live from ESPN and WatchESPN as Pistorius is on trial for the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp and it comes after the judge heard a number of arguments this week, including that Pistorius was not mentally ill when the shooting occurred and that he is depressed and under suicide watch while dealing with post-traumatic stress.
Pistorius stands accused of murdering his girlfriend and the fact that he shot her is not in dispute, but now the two sides are arguing whether it was premeditated or not. Pistorius was observed during a 30 day observation period at a state hospital during a break in the trial and now things are back in the courtroom. Pistorius has been called :egotistical" in court and the prosecution brought up arguments about his past issues with jealousy, anger, temper and guns as reasons why he should be guilty.
While Pistorius was not mentally ill when the shooting happened, he now is dealing with a number of emotional issues and some on the prosecution side have claimed that some of his emotion is not genuine and is only for show. ESPN writes that Pistorius likely will not be able to be declared not guilty due to mental illness and that is a major impact of the report and his defense claims that the runner ofter feels vulnerable when without his prosthetic legs.
Pistorius is a former Olympic and Paralympic athlete from South Africa and he shot to worldwide stardom after competing with SA in London in 2012 and now he is on trial for murder. Pistorius may have to serve jail time and there is a chance he could get sentenced with no jail time as well. Pistorius has appeared very emotional and physically sick at times while in the courtroom and some of the most harrowing testimony came from him and when others described the scene after the shooting.
Pistorius faces 25 years to life in jail for the murder charges and he also could get jail time if convicted for murder without premeditation as well as other gun related charges. One major aspect of the trial was about noises from the apartment and shouting the night of the murder.
