MLB All-Star Game Schedule: Start Time and TV Channel For 2014 Midsummer Classic

Jul 15, 2014 12:43 PM EDT

The MLB All-Star Game 2014 is live on the TV schedule from the FOX TV channel and the start time is 7:30 pm ET for the pre-game and 8 pm ET for the game with the red carpet special beforehand and the midsummer classic is live online from the FOX Sports Go website online from Target Field in Minneapolis and that has the Minnesota Twins as hosts for the American League and National League exhibition game for World Series home field advantage.

Minneapolis has the game for the first time since 1985 and the American League comes in looking to win again after a shutout of the National League and this will be for home field advantage in the World Series, because that makes sense. The game has a number of young players and stars, including Mike Trout, Robinson Cano, Miguel Cabrera and Derek Jeter and he is playing in his last All-Star game and will hit leadoff for the team.

John Farrell selected Felix Hernandez to start the game for the AL and that is well-deserved after the way he has pitched, while Mike Matheny selected Adam Wainwright to start for the NL. The game should be a good one this year, as both sides have power hitters and strength through the lineup, including in the NL with Andrew McCutchen, Giancarlo Stanton, Yasiel Puig and Troy Tulowitzki. The A's had a winner on Monday, as Yoenis Cespedes kept his HR derby title and he will try and take that power into the game.

Jeter is not really having an All-star season, but it's his last year and it's time to honor him and he will bat leadoff for the team at Target Field. Jeter said he wants to meet and help out all the young players at the game in the same way veterans helped him and he thanked Farrell for batting him in the leadoff spot. Jeter is hitting over .270 with two home runs, 25 RBIs and 31 runs scored and while that isn't a great season, he still deserves to be here.

Hernandez is having a fantastic season and with Masahiro Tanaka on the mend, there wasn't much of a choice for Farrell. Felix has gone 11 straight starts with seven innings and two or less runs, the second longest streak since the 1970s and he has the Mariners in playoff contention for the first time in a decade. Wainwright is the other starter and he has been playing great and he has a lineup to face that includes Cabrera, Mike Trout, Jose Bautista and Adam Jones as well as Nelson Cruz and others on the team.
