The NY Mets and Seattle Mariners are playing an interleague game on Monday night at Safeco Field in Washington and the matchup starts at 10:10 pm ET and has Roenis Elias and Jonathon Niese on the mound in the game and this is big for the M's as they try and stay in playoff position and they return home after losing two of three in LA, with all three coming down to the ninth or later.
The Mariners have been one of the most surprising teams in baseball this season and they are playoff position for the first time in a decade and they are trying to stay afloat after losing against the Angels in the bottom of the ninth on Sunday. Robinson Cano had an off day and he will be back in the lineup and he has been hitting very well, hitting .335 this season and while his power has not been there, the numbers overall have.
The Mariners have not been scoring runs on a consistent basis and they are also looking for Elias to get back on track after a recent rough stretch. The Mets will avoid pitching from Felix Hernandez after his start was moved and the Mets are hoping for some luck in the Pacific Northwest. Elias has had his moments this season, but he has given up four runs in five of his last seven starts and he needs to be more efficient for manager Lloyd McClendon.
The Mets have been terrible this season offensively and they nearly were no-hit by the Padres this weekend and now the Mariners need to feast. The team has averaged less than three runs in their last 13 games and that means they have to snap out of things. The weather is great for a game in Seattle and the Mets are coming into Seattle for their first time in years and former NY star Cano has faced the team multiple times while playing for the Yankees.
