Mark Sanchez has come up in trade rumors with the Philadelphia Eagles this preseason, as the St. Louis Rams need a new quarterback after losing Sam Bradford to a season ending injury and other teams like the Buffalo Bills and Houston Texans also could be interested after getting up and down play from their QBs, starters and backups, this preseason and in training camp.
According to Pro Football Talk, the Rams have said they are not currently looking at trades to replace Bradford, while Sanchez has tried to downplay the trade talk, saying that he is happy in his situation in Philadelphia. Sanchez has played very well this preseason and he has looked very comfortable in the offense from Chip Kelly and that is one reason he has come up in rumors. Another reason for the Rams connection apart from the Bradford injury is due to the fact that he had past success with offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer.
The Buffalo Bills have been unhappy with their backup play according to Pro Football Talk and that could lead to the team making a deal. The Texans have also been mentioned in trade rumors with Ryan Mallett, but so far for now no deal has been close to going down. Sanchez has been playing very well this preseason and while he has said that he is fine where he is, the Rams likely will take a look at him due to the Schottenheimer connections.
The Rams have Shaun Hill right now and while that is a solid option, the team realizes that is a downgrade from Bradford. Bradford was healthy and looked ready to go this season after getting injured last year and now his future with the Rams is up in the air. The Rams went with Bradford and did not draft Johnny Manziel or Blake Bortles and now they have to wonder what might of been.
Bradford dealt with a knee injury last season and now he has injured the same ACL and will be out for the rest of the season, a huge hit for the Rams. Bradford has missed a ton of time over the past few years and he has now missed 49 games in the first five years he has been in the league and that will make it tough for the Rams to keep things going. Bradford made his second start of the preseason in the game when he was injured and he was 4-of-9 for 77 yards and that was his comeback after getting injured in October of last year against the Panthers.
