Jan Vertonghen is still unsure of completing his move from Ajax Amsterdam to Tottenham Hotspur as Tottenham step up their chase for Brazilian sensation Oscar.
Vertonghen's representatives held another meeting with Ajax on Friday, but failed to reach a resolution. The Belgian defender believes he is entitled a 15 per cent cut of the reported £9 million ($14 million) transfer fee, but Ajax disagree.
Vertonghen's agent Mustapha Nakhil said talks would continue over the week in a bid to resolve the situation. "We have nothing (agreed) at this moment.
"They (the talks) were not easy but we are going to try again, maybe tomorrow."
Nakhil had been confident of coming to an agreement before the meeting on Friday. "We have a meeting with Ajax at the end of this (Friday) morning to come to a solution," a statement to Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf read.
"There is some movement and we have the intention to come to an agreement."
New Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has already completed the signing of Gylfi Sigurdsson and wants to bring in the Ajax defender, with the Portuguese also looking at several other signings.
Another of Spurs' summer targets, highly-rated Brazilian playmaker Oscar, admitted Spurs had made contact. "They (Tottenham) contacted my agent," the Internacional player told Lancenet.
"I do not know if there was an official proposal, you'll have to ask my manager or the president.
"I don't know what might happen, I'm not thinking of it right now.
"Not only Tottenham (asked about me), but I'm not sure if there was an official offer. Offers always come for me, (team-mate Leandro) Damiao and whoever is showing up."
It is understood both Oscar and Damiao are looking to stay in Brazil till the World Cup in 2014 at home.
Meanwhile, Manchester City left-back and former England international Wayne Bridge joined Championship club Brighton on a season-long loan deal.
Bridge, who has failed to get any game time at City, was sent on loan to West Ham and Sunderland over the past two seasons and will now spend the 2012-13 campaign with Brighton.
"It's difficult to say how happy I am because it's not easy to get top-class players," Brighton coach Gus Poyet told the club's official website.
"I'm absolutely delighted to have Wayne with us. He's been one of the top three left-backs in this country for many years.
"There were a lot of things that had to come together to make it happen.
"Firstly, David Platt has been great at Manchester City and then Wayne and his agent have helped a lot too.
"It was not an easy one to secure, but this is what we want at this club. He's a quality player with lots of international experience.
"Wayne has played at the top of English football for a long time.
"We have all got to learn from him and I'm sure that he will have a very good season with us.
"It's going to be very nice to sit back and watch him on the pitch."
