The US Open 2014 is live for the second round and ESPN has the TV coverage streaming online from WatchESPN as Serena Williams and Novak Djokovic try to move on at the United States tennis major in Flushing and it comes after the two advanced in the first round and coverage is from Arthur Ashe Stadium starting up in the afternoon before the night session.
Williams won her first round match over Taylor Townsend after putting up a straight sets victory and now she is through to the next set and she is also playing doubles in this tournament. Williams now has her next match and that comes ahead of Djokovic on the main court and then play will continue into the night and coverage comes on ESPN and WatchESPN for those as well.
Williams was able to get through the first round with ease and that came against Taylor Townsend and now she is facing off against Vania King. Williams sadly has had to play against two Americans in two matches and while that doesn't really matter, it's too bad she is the one having to dispatch the young talent of the USA at the United States Open. Djokovic had a solid day in the first round and now he is through and he is looking to win this tournament after getting beaten the last couple times he made it to the finals.
Williams won the tournament last year and now she is defending her title, while Rafael Nadal had to pull out with a wrist injury and now he cannot defend his title. Djokovic won in straight sets over Diego Schwartzman and now he has Paul-Henri Mathieu in the second round and he comes into this tournament after winning four titles this year and that came after he won seven last season on the tour.
The second round will get going for the men and women and then the third round picks up later in the week and so far the tournament has been getting some fantastic weather. It has not been blistering hot and the rain has been cooperating for now and the organizers are hoping that continues next week as the tournament moves into the later rounds.
Stan Wawrinka had a tough match in the second round and he won 6-3, 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (1) and also had a bit of an issue with a fan who was getting too rowdy The Swiss star snapped at one of the fans late in the match as things were getting tight, telling them to shut up and later he said it was fine and he got caught up in the heat of the moment and that things happens sometimes like that at the US Open.
Maria Sharapova won her match in the second round over Alexandra Dulgheru after losing the first set and she was able to rally, dropping five games over the final two sets. Ana Ivanovic ended her hot streak after getting beaten in two sets and now she is out of the tournament and that could open things up for some players as they start to move through the draw.
