Danny Welbeck is looking for a pay-hike after his impressive performances for both club and country saw the Manchester United striker's stock rise considerably.
Welbeck, 21, is in his last year of his current deal and talks over a new contract have stalled with Welbeck's representatives demanding considerably higher than what United are willing to pay, according to The Sun.
The England striker earns around £15,000 a week ($23,200) in his current contract and is now looking to earn £60,000 a week ($93,000) before bonuses. United are only prepared to give £40,000 ($62,000) with it rising to £60,000 based on appearances.
Welbeck is being represented mainly by his brother Chris, who believes his sibling deserves the proposed pay-hike after scoring 12 goals in 38 appearances last season as well as starring for England in their Euro 2012 campaign. Welbeck scored one of the goals of the tournament when he struck the winner against Sweden.
Sir Alex Ferguson will be desperate not to lose out on another highly-rated youngster after seeing the likes of Paul Pogba, Ezekiel Fryers and Ravel Morrison leave for Juventus, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham respectively.
Former United striker Andy Cole recently said he expected this season to be Welbeck's most important one, if he was to have a future with the Old Trafford club. "So this is going to be a big season for him," the former England striker said.
"He has to try and cement his spot as a first-choice Manchester United striker. He's more than good enough to do that, but he has to keep doing it.
"You have to do it season in, season out before people are convinced by you."
United, meanwhile, are set to reward talented youngster Larnell Cole with a new long-term contract. The attacking midfielder is highly thought of at Old Trafford and Ferguson is keen to secure the player's long-term future.
The 19-year-old progressed from the youth ranks and helped United to the FA Youth Cup in 2011. He made his debut for the senior side in the Carling Cup win over Leeds United.
Cole is tipped for great things at United and Ferguson could send him out on loan for the upcoming season, to gain some first-team experience.
Meanwhile, captain Nemanja Vidic is in line for a comeback sooner than expected. The 30-year-old will miss United's tours of South Africa and China, but is expected to take part in the club's tour to Scandinavia in early August.
