The NY Yankees and Boston Red Sox are playing live on the MLB schedule on Friday night and the game from Fenway Park starts up at 7:10 pm ET and is the final series for Derek Jeter and New York comes in after their emotional win from Jeter against the Orioles and the pitching matchup has Chris Capuano against Steven Wright for the AL east rivalry.
The Yankees had a dream game for Derek Jeter and he got to finish his career in the Bronx in style, as David Robertson gave up two home runs in the ninth to blow the game and send it to the bottom of the nith. Jeter came through with the game winning hit after pushing across the game winning run earlier and now he has solidified his legend at Yankee Stadium. Everyone knew Jeter would get one final at bat and they hoped it would count and he made it count and that gave him a walk off win in his final game at shortstop for the Yankees.
The Yankees come into the game with nothing to play for an amazingly the game at the Stadium for Jeter was the first time in the Bronx that he played without having the team alive for the postseason. Jeter was injured last season when the Yanks missed the playoffs and he at least gave the team something to be happy about despite missing the playoffs. The team came into the season with high expectations after spending a ton of money not on Robinson Cano and now they have to watch as the Mariners finish with a better record and they remain alive for the postseason.
The Yankees will have Masahiro Tanaka pitching at Fenway on Saturday and they are hoping he can go a few years without getting Tommy John surgery and that likely will work out well. The team lost Tanaka and CC Sabathia this season to injury and that made it tough for the team and they also were mostly terrible on offense. Jeter has had a strong end to the season, but he has not been a good number two hitter and that is one reason why the Yankees have struggled.
The Yankees now face off against their rivals in the AL East and they have had a disappointing season as well, as the Red Sox have been way out of the mix. The team won the World Series last season and now they are ending the season against the Yankee and you know it's bad when most of the fans at Fenway will be there to cheer Jeter since most Yankees fans could get tickets since Red Sox fans checked out a month ago.
