Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Detroit Red Wings Live Stream: Watch Online Streaming NHL Preseason Game

Sep 29, 2014 07:26 PM EDT

The Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings are playing live on the NHL preseason schedule from Joe Louis Arena in Michigan as these two Original Six teams matchup and the eastern conference rivals will be looking to start off strong into the season and the game starts up at 7:30 pm ET and comes after the Wings lost to another O6 team in their last matchup with the Bruins and now they take on the Leafs from Canada.

The Leafs and Red Wings are Original Six teams and now they are both in the east after Detroit was moved and this is a classic matchup ahead of the season. Last year the Rangers and the Canadiens played in the playoffs for an Original Six matchup and the same happened when the Blackhawks and the Bruins battled it out with each other. The Red Wings have a great history and in recent years they have been much better than the Leafs and now both will be looking to make the playoffs.

The Red Wings come into the game after a loss to the Bruins and after that they will play against the Penguins and that will also be at home. Last season the Red Wings were in the middle of the pack when it came to scoring and goaltending and they need to get those numbers up to get into better position in the east. The new playoff format changes things up for teams in the playoffs, as they will play against rivals and that is why the Rangers and Flyers matched up in the first round last season.

The Red Wings are already dealing with a tough start to the season, as they are going to be without Pavel Datsyuk for a month with a shoulder injury and that means he could miss the start of the regular season. Daniel Alfredsson is up in the air and he comes in after leading the team in scoring and the Red Wings now come in with high expectations after the way last year went and that means they will be looking to get off to a strong start.

The Maple Leafs come into the game after winning over the Sabres in a shootout and that was a home matchup against Buffalo. The team now plays a home and home with the Red Wings and they will host the second game of that on Friday after this matchup. The team ranked in the middle of the pack in scoring last season, but the goaltending was not up to par and while they ranked fifth in power play percentage, the team was 28th in penalty kill percentage last year.
