The NY Jets have gone to Michael Vick and they plan on sticking with Vick as the starter over Geno Smith and Matt Simms, as Rex Ryan has said he gives the team the best chance to win and now the Jets could be shaping up for a new quarterback in New York and names like Marcus Mariota, Jameis Winston and Brett Hundley will be mentioned as 2015 draft options with how bad the NYJ have been.
The Jets had an embarrassing moment on Sunday (what else is new) when Mark Sanchez led the Eagles to a victory, as they previously ran him out of town and Rex Ryan treated him terribly at the end and now they had to watch as he played well for Philly. Sanchez was left out on the field to twist in the wind at the end of his tenure and he ended up getting injured and now the Jets are still dealing with the after effects of that. Smith has been terrible and may not have a future with the team, while Matt Simms ended up playing when Vick was sidelined with an injury.
According to Pro Football Talk, the Jets are going to stick with Michael Vick despite losing again to fall to 1-8, as Rex Ryan says he gives the team the best chance to win. The team now is in danger of losing nine straight games after losing to the Chiefs this weekend and they have another hard test with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Vick was solid on Sunday with 21-of-28 completions for 196 yards and a touchdown and he did not turn the ball over.
The turnovers have been the biggest issue for Smith and Vick this season and with a full week of practice under his belt with the game plan, Vick looked much better than earlier in the season. The Jets lost again in one of the toughest places to play in the league and the Chiefs were just much better and the game was never even close. Vick did have to leave for a bit after getting banged up, but he made it back out onto the field after Matt Simms took over for a hot minute.
Vick did not get the win Sunday, but the way he played -after being prepared through the week and working as the starter, something the jets REFUSED to do until now--- everyone is wondering what the season could have been like if he started sooner. It's very likely the team would not be 1-8 and while the Jets may not be much better than that, they would at least be in the mix in the AFC. All the Jets have to wonder about now is what top 10 pick they will have next season and that is the fault of Ryan, John Idzik and an organization that doesn't know how to properly run a football team.
Vick should have been brought in much sooner than this and now the Jets are setting themselves up for more drama. The team looks like they will have a top five pick next season and unless they keep saying Geno is our guy, Geno is our guy, Geno is our guy, Geno is our guy, and convincing themselves to keep him, they will have Marcus Mariota, Jameis Winston and Brett Hundley as prime draft options.
