The New Jersey Devils and Detroit Red Wings are playing live on the NHL schedule on Friday night and the game is from Joe Louis Arena as the two similar colored teams match up and it comes after the Wings lost a tough overtime game against the NJ rivals the New York Rangers and now the Wings return home for the eastern conference matchup.
The Devils come into the game at third in the metro division right now and they are 6-5-2 on the season and they play against the Red Wings before a matchup with the Bruins in Boston. The team comes in after a loss against the Blues and the Devils are hoping they can make it back to the playoffs after a tough year last season. Cory Schneider has given the team a strong goalie in net and like Martin Brodeur, he has been a consistent presence for the team.
The team comes in at 15th in the league in goals per game and they are one of the worst in penalty kill percentage so far, although they are ranked eighth in power play percentage. Henrik Zetterberg at Left Wing is leading the Red Wings in points this season and now the team comes in after a tough overtime loss to the Rangers. The teams went back and forth and eventually NY pulled one out and now the Red Wings come in with 16 points, two more than the Devils.
The Red Wings come in at fourth in the Atlantic division and they are looking to make the playoffs after their streak ended last year. The team is playing against the Lighting at home after the matchup with the Devils and they come in at 18th in goals per game. The team is fourth in penalty kill percentage and 11th in goals against and they are also 25th in power play percentage.
The east has top heavy teams and the rest is wide open and these teams should be right in the mix. The Islanders have been off to a good start and the Bruins and Penguins are expected to be the top teams again. The Rangers and the Canadiens made deep runs last season and they also should be there in the postseason.
