Arsenal Transfer News: Thierry Henry Open to Arsenal Return

Thierry Henry admitted he would like to come back to Arsenal in a coaching capacity once his career is over.

Henry, the record goal-scorer for the Gunners, enjoyed a spectacularly successful nine-year spell in North London, and revealed if he would take up any coaching job after his playing career, it would be with the club he loves - Arsenal.

The Frenchman, who will turn 35 next month, left Arsenal in 2007 for Barcelona, before signing for the New York Red Bulls in 2010. He is at the final year of his three-year deal with the MLS club, and has not decided about his future yet.

"Eventually I'd like to go back to Arsenal," Henry is quoted as saying in the Telegraph.

"I don't know how, it depends. Seriously, I don't know (what it will be).

"I just want to finish my career (first). I would go back to England, for sure, with Arsenal. Coaching does interest me but I really don't think about it right now."

The Arsenal legend returned to the club as a player for a short loan spell in January, but ruled out the possibility of a repeat next season, although he may train with the club again during the MLS off-season. "I don't plan to go back (again to play for Arsenal) and I didn't plan to go back and play last time," Henry said.

"It was only because the guys (forwards Gervinho and Marouane Chamakh) went to the African Cup of Nations. They asked me if I wanted to play, and that's it. I was there to train."

Henry, who scored a brilliant winner against Leeds United in the FA Cup last season, had a big influence on the youngsters at Arsenal, with the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain praising him for his advice.

While Arsene Wenger has just re-assembled his coaching staff after the retirement of Pat Rice, the Frenchman will be tempted to accommodate Henry at the club, if his compatriot decides to return.

Many Arsenal fans see a dream coaching combination of Henry and Dennis Bergkamp bringing unprecedented success back to the club, like they did on numerous occasions while playing on the pitch.

Henry, however, refused to be drawn out on the Robin Van Persie situation. The current Arsenal captain has refused to sign a new contract, forcing Arsenal to look for buyers for their star striker.

"I've nothing to say about it," Henry said of the Van Persie situation. "They have to deal with it and that's just the way it is...It's a hard one.

"I don't want to get involved in this kind of thing. It's a tricky one but obviously I don't know what's happening. It's difficult for me to talk about it."

The Frenchman was excited by to see Tim Cahill joining the Red Bulls. Everton accepted a fee from the MLS to sell their midfielder, who had been with the Toffees since 2004. "Talking about Tim Cahill, he's going to be great," Henry said. "We're going to have to wait for him to undergo his medical. He's going to be a great asset for us and also for the league.

"If you saw the guy play the way he plays, I love the commitment and I always loved his commitment.

"He's great in the box, his headers are unbelievable. He fights back to the net and his football brain is great also. Hopefully that can be a plus for us."
