The Washington Redskins will start Robert Griffin III for Week 13 against the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday and this comes after Jay Gruden gave a vote of confidence to his starter despite the recent play of RG3 and while Colt McCoy could play at some point, right now it's Griffin's team and this comes as speculation has been rumbling about his future in DC.
Griffin will remain the starter for Week 13, as head coach Jay Gruden said that despite earlier reports, he did not think about benching Griffin last week. Griffin has struggled mightily this season and he does not look like the player he was back in his rookie season when he led the team to the play-offs. Gruden said that he intends on putting Griffin in as the starter next week and is comes after he passed for just 106 yards against the 49ers.
Griffin has passed for 869 yards this season in five games and he has three interceptions and two TDs and if he has another rough performance, Gruden will get even more calls to make a move. The game matchup between RG3 and Luck is an amazing comparison, as they were selected one and two in the draft a few years ago. The Colts were basically all-in on Luck, so it's not like the Redskins had much of a choice or really could have had Luck, but comparing the two now is very interesting, especially with how things have developed with Griffin over the past two years.
Comparing the play on the field is one thing, but the way the two players are portrayed in and deal with the media is also an interesting comparison. Luck doesn't have to deal with the craziness that is the DC Media Sports Complex, but one would be surprised to see Luck handle things the way Griffin has. Luck doesn't seem to pay attention to any social media chatter or other distractions, while Griffin appears to have rabbit ears and finds the need to respond to every slight or criticism.
Griffin has taken a "me against the world" attitude many times and his campaign last season to play Week 1 was odd and attention grabbing as well. It put Griffin ahead of the team and to also put him in a position to get injured again, but Griffin had to "prove" that he would be ready for Week 1 and that may have put the Redskins in a bad situation overall. That season ended with a 3-13 campaign, no first round draft pick and a whole new coaching staff and a lot of that falls to Griffin.
The Redskins are 3-8 on the season and they are in the bottom of the division with the Giants and now they have a matchup with the Colts. The team comes in after a loss to the 49ers and after the Colts game they play the Rams before a visit to New York. The team ends the season on the road against the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys for two divisional games.
