Australia cricket batsman Phil Hughes is in critical condition after being struck in the head by a bouncer in a match at the Sydney Cricket Ground during the Sheffield Shield matchup and video showed the strike as South Wales and South Australia played against each other and now Hughes is in the hospital in an induced coma.
According to the BBC and ESPN.com, Hughes was hit in the head and had to be carried off the pitch on a stretcher and following surgery he was placed in a medically induced coma. Cricket Australia team doctor Peter Brukner said that news on Hughes' condition and updated health status will come on Wednesday and right now the players and the team are holding out hope he can recover.
Official reports have the injury happening on Hughes after being "struck on the back, lower left side of the head".
