NBA Free Agent Rumors: Ray Allen Target For Cleveland Cavaliers, Chicago Bulls, Washington Wizards, Spurs Over Trades?

Nov 25, 2014 03:33 PM EST

Ray Allen remains the top NBA free agent target on the market and teams like the Cleveland Cavaliers, Chicago Bulls, Washington Wizards, San Antonio Spurs and LA Clippers could be interested in the veteran this season and reports have those teams keeping tabs on him as he prepares to sign, which could come after the All-Star break in the 2014-15 season.

Allen is looking to sign with a team this season and while there were some reports over the summer that he was retiring, Allen later came out to dispel those rumors. According to ESPN.com writer Chris Broussard, Allen is staying in shape while working out in Miami and teams like the Bulls, Spurs, Wizards and Cavaliers are among "Seven" keeping tabs on Allen. Heading into the season reports came out that Allen would look to sign with a team after the All-Star break and that looks accurate now.

The Bulls could be an option if Derrick Rose continues to be injured, while the Cavaliers are another option as a contender, although they are not playing that way now. LeBron James has made it clear that he would like to have Allen on the team, but right now he has bigger issues. Allen could bury the hatchet and join back with Paul Pierce and the Wizards, or he could chase another title with the San Antonio Spurs.

Last season Allen averaged 9.6 points per game and over the past two seasons with the Miami Heat he played in 79 and 73 games. Allen is a solid scoring option off the bench and while he is not as young or explosive as he once was, he still hits threes as good as anyone in the NBA. Adding a player like Allen could be huge come playoff time and that is why the teams listed above are looking at him.

The Cavaliers are still hoping Ray Allen signs and it's looking likely that Allen will wait until the middle of the season or later to sign. Allen is a legit free agent and can sign anywhere and while the Cavaliers are the frontrunners by all reports, the Chicago Bulls and other teams have also shown interest. According to ESPN.com, Allen has had calls from the Bulls, Cavaliers, Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs, LA Clippers and Washington Wizards this offseason as well as his old team the Milwaukee Bucks.
