Manchester United have registered their interest for Mexico's Hector Herrera, his club Pachuca confirmed. The midfielder was the star for Mexico as they won the gold medal at the London Olympics.

However, the talented midfielder is also being tracked by Liverpool, with the Reds voicing their interest officially as well.

"We know he's going to move to England," Pachuca sporting director Andres Fassi said. "Manchester United and Liverpool have talked to us.

"We want him to continue with Pachuca. But when he decides to leave, the club will give him the opportunity to do so."

Herrera, 22, is aware of the interest in his services, but admitted he hasn't had any talks with the aforementioned clubs. "The truth is that so far I know nothing about what is happening, I am not aware," he told Raza Deportiva.

"From what I've heard there has been some news, but I have had no approach from the Pachuca club president or the people from Manchester.

"If given the opportunity to move to Europe, of course I'd go but I have to wait to see what the club officials say."

Herrera, nicknamed "Zorro", has seen his stock rise considerably over the past year, culminating in the gold medal at the London Olympics, where Mexico beat overwhelming favorites Brazil in the final. "I did not expect it so soon, I did not expect these big clubs to be tracking me after such a short time, but this is the result of the sacrifices I have made," Herrera said.

The midfielder also played down suggestions he had spoken to Javier Hernandez over a move to Old Trafford. "No, as I said, there wasn't any approach or any talks. And I haven't had the pleasure of getting to know Chicharito," he added.

Meanwhile, Dimitar Berbatov is reportedly closing in on an exit from Old Trafford with Italian club Fiorentina and Dynamo Kiev leading the chase. The Bulgarian striker was barely used last season by Sir Alex Ferguson, and has fallen further down the pecking order with the arrival of Robin Van Persie from Arsenal.

According to the Daily Mirror, Manchester United have rejected a £3 million ($4.7 million) bid from the Italians, and are holding out for £5 million ($8 million).

Dynamo are ready to take advantage of the situation by putting in a bid which will satisfy United.

AC Milan and Zenit St Petersburg are also reportedly keeping an eye on the proceedings.
