Zenit St Petersburg have stepped up their interest in Manchester United winger Nani, with the players representatives meeting the Russian club to hold discussions over a proposed move, according to reports in the British press, while Javier Hernandez ruled out the possibility of a move away, insisting he wants to stay at Old Trafford and learn from Robin Van Persie.
Nani is reportedly disillusioned by United refusing to improve on his current contract, with Sir Alex Ferguson also disappointed by the performances of the Portuguese winger off late.
Nani was left out of the starting line-up against Fulham at the weekend, and could see himself benched for a considerable amount of time. That situation has prompted his representatives to look at the possibility of a move, with Zenit manager Luciano Spalletti already confirming his interest in the winger earlier this month.
It is understood, United will not accept a bid below £25 million ($39.4 million) for Nani, with Zenit reportedly considering matching the Old Trafford club's valuation.
Meanwhile, 'Chicharito' Hernandez said he was happy to fight for his place at United, after the signing of Van Persie from Arsenal, sent him further down the pecking order, with the Mexican international now fourth-choice, behind Van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Danny Welbeck.
"The great thing about this club is you know you will get opportunities because we play so many games in different tournaments," Chicharito told the club's official website. There is competition for places but you always have that.
"I had that in youth teams when I was growing up and we have it here now because you need a big squad of players. There are only 11 places each week and you need to do your best to get one of those places, but it's great to have that competition because it means every player will have to raise the level of their game."
Hernandez said he was looking forward to learning from the prolific Dutchman, who marked his Old Trafford debut with a wonderful goal against Fulham. "I think for people that just love football Robin is like Wazza and other top players, you just need to see them play," he said. "Even if you're not a United fan, you should watch players like Robin and Wazza because they are world class.
"Robin is someone I have always enjoyed watching -- he did a lot of great things for Arsenal and we want him to do the same for us.
"I think in life you never stop learning, no matter what age you are. I try to learn from all my team-mates, but obviously it's great to watch the other strikers in particular. They have all helped me a lot and I know I will learn a lot off Robin because he is a world-class striker who has a lot to give to the team and a lot to teach us all."
The 24-year-old said he was impressed by the new signings this summer, adding all the players had settled in really well already. Along with Van Persie, United have brought in Shinji Kagawa, Nick Powell and Alexander Buttner, with teenager Angelo Henriquez expected to complete his move soon. "It's been great. I know how they feel because two years ago I was in the same position," Hernandez said.
"They have all settled in very well and they're all working very hard. You always know that when the gaffer brings players to the club it's for a reason. It's because they have the level to be in this team and to help us improve."
