Arizona Cardinals Rumors: Brett Hundley Draft Option With Melvin Gordon, TJ Yeldon Targets Over Adrian Peterson Trade?

The Arizona Cardinals may consider an Adrian Peterson trade this offseason, but with the draft coming up, players like Melvin Gordon and TJ Yeldon could be potential running back targets over making a trade and this comes after the team met with Brett Hundley ahead of the draft after dealing with injuries to quarterbacks Carson Palmer and Drew Stanton last season.

The Cardinals were a playoff team last year, but they ended up losing to the Panthers in the first round. The team lost Carson Palmer in the middle of the season to an injury and into the playoffs they had to use Ryan Lindley after dealing with another injury to Drew Stanton. According to Pro Football Talk, Bruce Arians and the Cardinals visited with Hundley and the team gave him a private workout ahead of the draft.

Hundley has met with a number of teams and reports have the Buffalo Bills, NY Jets and Cleveland Browns as potential landing spots for the UCLA QB. The Cardinals could look at Hundley as an option, but they also have needs at running back with Andre Ellington coming off of an injury. The team was one of the worst rushing teams in the league last season and they could look at taking Yeldon or Gordon in the first round.

The team was also considered one of the landing spots for Adrian Peterson, but now it looks a deal will not happen. The Cardinals did not want to give up heavy draft compensation and that could mean that Peterson ends up staying in Minnesota. Bruce Arians would like a QB to develop for the future and someone like Hundley could be a fit. The team also is desperate for some running back help, as they ranked 31st in the league last season in yards per game on the ground. Ellington is a player with a ton of potential, but he dealt with injuries and the team could use some more depth.

Gordon had a great season with Wisconsin last year and ended up with 2587 yards and 29 touchdowns. Gordon had 45 touchdowns in four years in college and he is going to be a top target in this draft. Yeldon may not get as much attention and he could be an option for the Cardinals after putting up over 3000 yards and 37 touchdowns in his career at Alabama.

The Cardinals have the number 24 pick in the first round and while Hundley could be an option, they likely will go with a running back or a defensive player at that pick. Hundley may last past the first couple rounds, as Jameis Winston, Marcus Mariota and Bryce Petty are considered by many to be better prospects. Garrett Grayson has also received a ton of attention and that could benefit the Cardinals if they try and take Hundley later on.
